Achievements and activities

Quakers Hill East Public School (QHEPS) parents and citizens association (P&C) is 53 years old. Here, we outline the accomplishments of the P&C throughout our history and what we are responsible for today.

Funded by Parents and Citizens' Association

Chase Drive, Acacia Gardens site from 2002 to present:

  • building of the top COLA (covered outdoor learning area)  
  • air conditioning of classrooms and library
  • painted playground games on the concrete
  • upgrade to the lighting and sound system in the hall
  • a secure laptop computer trolley to enable more access to computers for all students
  • assisted with the funding for the re-turfing of playground (and subsequent initial maintenance during school holidays) to have a much safer play area, significant monetary contribution
  • purchased several smartboards for classrooms
  • purchase of a lawn mower and whipper snipper
  • helped with funding of the gifted and talented program for a year, significant monetary contribution.
  • purchase of reading resources.  Significant monetary contribution
  • pay for purchase of sticker packs for the teachers each year
  • fees assistance to families of children who represent our school at various events – for example, sporting and choir performances
  • successfully lobbied for a pedestrian crossing on Tamarind Drive
  • upgrade of the multi purpose court
  • replaced the old sand pit with a new, larger one and installed a shade cloth
  • purchased 10 iPads for use within classrooms.

Non-monetary achievements and activities

The P&C has:

  • installed metal seats in the tree area, brought from the old school site.
  • moved the school roadside notice board from vehicle entrance to corner of Chase Drive and Tamarind Drive.
  • assisted in gaining the grant for the safety and security fencing around the school.
  • established working bees – which does bush clearance, garden maintenance etc.
  • assisted with the school's 50th Anniversary celebrations in 2009 – hosted events such as Cocktail Party, Open Day, Memorial Garden.

Ongoing initiatives

The P&C continues to do:

  • 'Engraved vase' presented to present or past P&C members (those that have made a contribution to either office or functions of the P&C during their time at Quakers Hill East Public School), presented on the occasion of the last Principal's Award assembly in the last year of their last child's attendance at QHEPS
  • 'thank you' fruit basket/hamper to the teachers and staff of QHEPS on Teachers' Day each year
  • gift of recognition and thanks to retiring members of QHEPS staff
  • level of P&C insurance coverage – steered by Treasurer.

Major fundraising activities

At QHEPS, Acacia Gardens site:

  • Halloween Fete (2005 and 2010)
  • Mother's Day stalls (every year)
  • Father's Day stalls (every year)
  • entertainment book promotions
  • cookie dough/Krispy Kreme doughnuts/confectionary sales (prior to 2008)
  • cake stall and BBQ at the school's 50th Anniversary celebrations in 2009
  • Election Day BBQ
  • Trivia Night (2011).

Other activities

The P&C is, or has been, also responsible for:

  • running the canteen (2002 to 2005)
  • running the uniform shop
  • the Tuesday mums group (2002 to 2005) who undertook bookbinding and teacher support (reverted to individual class parent support in 2005)
  • Teacher recruitment – providing a trained parent representative on interview panels
  • review/proofreading of Annual School Report
  • drought relief - outback NSW.

Lalor road worked on:

  • canteen – 1959 to 1993 and 1995 to 2001.
  • uniform shop
  • Tuesday mums - 1990 to 2001, bookbinding and teacher support, and so on
  • Working Bees.
